The History of Sormani Calendars
Charlie Sormani, an Italian-Swiss immigrant, and his wife Heidi, came to New York and set up a small store front selling imported Swiss embroidered note cards in 1940. After the war, as European publishers were getting back on their feet, they started publishing calendars and the Sormani’s began importing them. Calendars quickly became the major part of the business. A few years later, they started offering the calendars by mail.
Charlie died on a buying trip in Switzerland in 1967. Heidi then traveled to see the publishers they were buying from and asked for their support, for which all agreed. Five years later Heidi decided it was too much to keep it going alone and sold it to Tom Heithouse from New York. Tom ran Sormani Calendars for 19 years selling it to Alex & Judie Jenkins from Massachusetts in 1991.
Rich and MJ Mastrovich are the current owners of Sormani Calendars. They are the parents of David (married to Katie), and the proud grandparents of Ethan David (born January 2009) and Keira Rose (born May 2011) whom they feature in the Sormani catalog.
